Boykin Spaniel Rescue Adoption FAQ

How do I adopt a Boykin from the BSR?

Complete the following steps to adopt a dog from BSR.

    1. Go to the Adoption Application and select the state you live in so that we can route you to the adoption coordinator in your area. (If you live in South Carolina, you also have to select your area code).
    2. Print the application and fill it out. If you have any questions when filling it out you can contact the adoption coordinator for your area. The coordinator's number and address print on the application form.
    3. Mail the completed form to the coordinator listed on the application form. The coordinator will contact you when he or she receives the application.
    4. When BSR approves your application, the coordinator will provide any further information you need on a particular dog. BSR strives to match the needs of the dog and the owner. If a dog who meets your needs is not available, the coordinator will hold your application until the appropriate dog enters the BSR system.
    5. When an adoption application match is made, the coordinator will work with you as you make your arrangements to pick up your newly adopted dog. Due to limited resources and volunteers, BSR cannot provide transportation to new owners.

Is there an adoption fee?

There is an adoption fee of $250 for each dog. BSR uses the fee to help cover veterinary care, food costs and incidentals for the dogs while they are being fostered.

What if I want to adopt a dog that is being fostered in another state?

You are responsible for providing transportation for the dog you are adopting.

What if there is no appropriate dog available after I complete the adoption application process?

If a dog that meets your needs is not available, your application will be held until the appropriate dog enters the BSR system.

Is there any other way to fill out the adoption application and send it?

BSR does not currently have an online application process. You can work with your area coordinator to fax the application instead of mailing it.

What is the difference in adopting a dog through BSR or receiving one from an Owner Referral?

BSR has a service called Owner Referral which allows owners to post their dogs for adoption on our site. You can view the process and requirements in Owner Referral. A family that adopts a Boykin Spaniel through BSR can be assured that their dog has received a thorough, documented medical and behavioral evaluation.  An owner referral, however, does not have to provide this service.  Additionally, an adoption procedure outside BSR does not require an adoption application or adoption contract.  BSR requires both to assure the best possible fit for our dog and its future forever home.
