Boykin Spaniel Rescue Volunteer FAQ

What types of volunteer opportunities are there with BSR?

Volunteers tend to fall into three roles. You can volunteer for more than one role.

    1. Fostering Boykin Spaniels.
    2. Transporting Boykin Spaniels (the Boykin Express).
    3. Advocating and Promoting Boykin Spaniel Rescue.

What do I do as a Foster Parent?

BSR needs volunteers to foster Boykins awaiting adoption. As a foster parent you’ll observe your new canine ward and evaluate temperament, behavior patterns, favorite toys, etc. It's your job to keep the dog well-fed, clean, and safe until placed with a new family. Part of the responsibility of fostering is evaluating the dog's temperment and habits and documenting any information needed to match the dog with a prospective home.

What is the Boykin Express?

Because BSR rescues dogs nationally, sometimes BSR needs help transporting dogs to different locations. For example, a dog might be rescued in South Carolina and need to be transported to Viriginia. Or, it might be fostered in Charleston, SC but need to transported to the adoption family in Atlanta. Don't worry, BSR is not expecting you to drive cross-country. Depending on the situation, we can transfer dogs in stages. Sometimes it's just shuttling a dog to a nearby city. If you are in the position that you cannot devote a lot of time to BSR,the Boykin Express could be your niche in our system!

What can I do as a BSR advocate?

BSR advocates promote information on rescuing Boykin Spaniels and working with shelters and other rescue groups to identify Boykin Spaniels. Advocates can also contact vet offices to see if they are willing to donate medical services.

How do I apply to become a BSR volunteer?

Just download the BSR Volunteer Application, fill it out and mail it to the volunteer coordinator. The application has the volunteer's contact information on it.
